We found our forest fires

The mystery of the way in which the worst forest fires in South Korea in history began – or at least one of them – perhaps soon resolved. THE Tutor The reports that the police launched a 56-year-old investigation which he said, who said, sparked a fire while taking care of the graves of his grandparents in the county of Gyeongsang d’Uiseong. The BBC notes that the man has been reserved but not arrested, and that he will be called for interrogation in about a month, once a survey on the site has been completed.

The man’s daughter told authorities that her father used a cigarette lighter on March 22 to burn branches hanging on the tombs when the flames were “worn by the wind”. Forest fires killed at least 30 people in total and led to the burn of nearly 120,000 acres of land. Managers say that the main fire was under control by firefighters on Sunday or Monday, but not before raging for more than a week and destroyed thousands of structures, including houses, factories and historic buildings such as the Gounsa temple, 1300 years old.

Most of the deceased would have been in sixties and the 1970s. According to CNN, taking care of family tombs is a long -standing tradition in South Korea and other Asian countries, especially in spring and autumn. The South Korean leader Han Duck-Soo calls the fires that his country has seen in recent years, causing “unprecedented damage” across the country. The AP note that the police do not say if someone else will be charged, because fire managers think that there has not been a single big fire but several “triggered by several human errors … including burning waste and sparks of welding work”.
