Until now, the official line taken by the central-right parts has been to keep their distances from the extreme right in accordance with Europe Health cord.
But the NGOs and the left groups within the European Parliament, such as the left and the Greens, fear that the interior battle of Germany will take place at the level of EU institutions by creating a path for the Conservatives and on the far right to connect.
The European People’s Party in the center -right has already launched a campaign – supported by the conservatives and European -right European reformists (ECR) and the far -right patriots for Europe – to examine whether the European Commission funding for green NGOs has been used to put pressure in Brussels.
While budget talks are looming in Parliament, the EPP, where the CDU is a key member, could use this common position on funding to build a new majority with far -right parts, certain left groups are worried.
“We have seen dangerous trends concerning the support of civil society in other countries, and I cannot believe that the CDU wishes to end up in this camp,” said René Repasi, head of the German socialist delegation in the European Parliament.
“Distinguishing the NGOs, as the European people and the CDU do, is unjustified and deeply disturbing,” said Ciarán Cuffe, co -president of the European Green Party. “We do not want the EPP to become a kind of police from Orwellian thought, telling civil society what to think.”
