Lionel Messi’s bodyguard interrupted Inter Miami’s win over Sporting Kansas City to tackle a fan as he tried to get closer to the Argentine superstar.
Yassine Cheuko has been on a mission to protect Messi since the World Cup winner’s arrival in Major League Soccer last summer.
The bodyguard who came to Miami originally from Paris having protected Messi at Paris Saint-Germain, stalks the sidelines during MLS matches.
And he was called into action in Saturday night’s 3-2 win over Sporting KC. In the final minutes of the match, Cheuko sprinted onto the field, prompting the referee to pause the match.
The bodyguard had spotted a fan running behind one of the goals towards Messi – who was facing in the opposite direction.

The fan reached for Messi and appeared to try to take a selfie before Yassine Cheuko intervened.
He could be seen sprinting onto the pitch from the touchline as the fan approached Messi.
Before Cheuko could intervene, the supporter reached for Messi and appeared to try to take a selfie with the Argentine icon. But he was quickly tackled by Chueko as stadium security also invaded.
Several other fans also stormed the field during Saturday’s match. A young fan was tackled to the ground by security, while Messi put his arm around another boy before he was taken away.
Despite the distractions, Messi shone at Arrowhead Stadium in front of Patrick Mahomes as Inter Miami secured a dramatic victory.
With Chiefs quarterback Mahomes watching from the stands in a record crowd of more than 72,000, Messi scored a wonder goal and created another in Miami’s 3-2 victory.
Luis Suarez secured all three points with the winner, 19 minutes from time, after Tata Martino’s side came from behind to claim a first victory in a month. This victory places Miami at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
Another young fan – wearing a Messi shirt – was tackled by stadium security during the match.
