The film produced in French, mainly in Spanish, tells the story of a Mexican cartel leader who tries to escape drug trafficking by undergoing sex reassignment surgery to become a “woman”. Real-life transgender actress Karla Sofía Gascón – a biological male who identifies as a woman – plays the title role.

Gascón was tipped to win best actress on Sunday, but Demi Moore won for her performance in the body horror film The bottom.
