Winner of Best Picture at the Golden Globes Emilie Pérez features a musical number celebrating transgender surgery — the craziest sequence in a movie that seems to pride itself on piling one crazy scene on top of another.

Emilie Pérez won the Golden Globes for best comedy or musical on Sunday. It also won two other awards for supporting actress Zoe Saldana and best non-English language film.
The film produced in French, mainly in Spanish, tells the story of a Mexican cartel leader who tries to escape drug trafficking by undergoing sex reassignment surgery to become a “woman”. Real-life transgender actress Karla Sofía Gascón – a biological male who identifies as a woman – plays the title role.
Gascón was tipped to win best actress on Sunday, but Demi Moore won for her performance in the body horror film The bottom.
Emilie Pérez It’s widely expected to score several Oscar nominations this week, with Netflix’s formidable publicity machine building buzz around the Jacques Audiard-directed film.
