Watch Bengal Tigers Eat a Huge Crocodile

Suffice it to say, it’s not easy to kill a crocodile. Ninety-five million years of evolution haven’t gotten there, and most animals haven’t gotten there either.

But some jungle predators can, and tourists have filmed a fascinating encounter in an Indian national park.

T-124, aka Riddhi, is a six-year-old Bengal tigress living in Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan, India. In 2023, she had three cubs and recently the family became internet famous with a crocodile dinner.

Shared on the park’s official account, the clip shows the cats tearing apart a large crocodile corpse near a waterway. “Tigress Riddhi and her cubs killed a crocodile,” reads the caption (the video does not show the reported killing).

Bengal tigers are among several big cats known to prey on crocodiles, which are usually top predators themselves. Jaguars may prey on two particular species of caiman, but the consensus considers this to be rare, according to the Indian website DownToEarth.org. It’s even more unusual to capture one on camera.

If you follow the T-124, you may have better chances. The tigress stalked a crocodile in February, but the prey escaped into the water. She is also a descendant of T-16, a female who earned the nickname “Crocodile Killer” after capturing one of the large reptiles in 2003.

Even for a Bengal tiger, crocodile hunting is a risky activity: the situation can be reversed. But don’t tell that to T-16. Although she lost both of her canines during the crocodile fight in 2003, she died in 2016 at the age of 20, outliving an average Bengal by 5 to 10 years.
