Washington State Patrol trooper involved in collision that closed section of I-90 at Broadway

May 27—A collision involving a Washington State Patrol cruiser and another vehicle closed a section of Interstate 90 for four hours Monday.

The drivers of each vehicle are being treated at the hospital for minor injuries, said Cole Jackson, public information officer for the State Patrol.

Around 10 a.m., the two vehicles collided on the west side of the highway near the 286 Broadway Avenue exit in east Spokane.

Responding officers closed a section of the highway while investigators took notes at the scene.

“Any time a patrol car is involved in a collision, we have to take on-scene actions and document them,” Jackson said.

Officers redirected traffic to exit at Broadway, cross the overpass and re-enter the highway via the adjacent on-ramp.

The closure lasted approximately four hours. The state patrol opened two of the four lanes around 2:20 p.m. and the rest of the highway around 3 p.m.

Jackson said the officer involved in the collision was not chasing another vehicle or trying to pass the other car involved in the collision.

The cause of the collision, fault and possible citations are still under investigation, Jackson said.
