Bobby Wagner’s mandate in Washington is not yet over.
The veteran intermediary secondary and the heart of the defense of the commanders agreed on a contract for next season, according to a person knowing the move. The person spoke on Thursday at the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the agreement had not yet been announced.
To reach 35 this summer, Wagner led the commanders with 132 plated during the regular season and was appointed to his 10th Pro Bowl. He made 25 more during their playoffs as a centerpiece of a very improved defense.
The highly respected veteran concluded a unit that went from the last of the league before he and several new arrivals arrive to finish the 13th under the first year that the coach Dan Quinn and the defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr.
“He is a field coach,” said Whitt about Wagner in January. “He is the ultimate leader. To be the Bobby Wagner, he is a humble man. He listens. He takes coaching. … he takes the youngest, he brings them (and is) a mentor. I can tell him and talk to him in the game and he could take what I say and communicate him very well to the players.
The financial conditions were not immediately available, although the reports indicate that the agreement was for 8 million dollars guaranteed and could be worth up to $ 9.5 million. This is an increase compared to the 6 million dollars guaranteed that it signed a year ago when the new director general Adam Peters rebuilds the list.

Wagner, who won the Super Bowl with Seattle in the 2013 season when Quinn led La Défense, developed a strong link with Jayden Daniels, the offensive recruit of the year and the faces of the franchise.
“Obviously, I knew him, but I did not know him personally,” said Daniels. “But since I got here, we just struck each other and he’s like a big brother for me and everything – always give a game, take care of us.”
With Wagner’s back, commanders can choose to add depth behind the veteran secondary to the NFL draft next month or focus on other areas of need. The right -wing goalkeeper Sam Cosmi will most likely miss the 2025 season due to the knee injury he suffered in the playoffs, so the offensive line is certainly a consideration.
And with the recent acquisition of the former receiver of the 49ers of San Francisco, Deebo Samuel, Washington could no longer be motivated to add a wide range to the project.
Commanders fought against the race in 2024 and could use their first -round choice to approach the defensive line.
Washington has re-signed Wagner hours after bringing back the Botter Zane Gonzalez. His contract is also for one year and is worth the minimum wage of the league of 1.17 million dollars, according to another person knowing the agreement which spoke under the cover of anonymity because the financial conditions have not been disclosed.

There is less pressure for the commanders to add a receiver after landing Deebo Samuel
Gonzalez went 7 for 8 on the goal attempts on the field during the playoff race after finishing 5 of 7 in the regular season. This included the kick beating by the buzzer and winning in the joker tour at Tampa Bay who gave Washington his first victory in qualifying series in almost two decades.
“The organization is incredible, the coach staff are incredible,” said Gonzalez in January about his time with the commanders. “It’s really great, and I am incredibly grateful for the whole organization, honestly, as a whole. Everyone here is really, really incredible people. They have something special, and I’m just happy to be part of it and make my little game.
Gonzalez, who was 30 years old in May, joined Washington in November when the Austin Seibert botter faced an injury to the hamstrings. Seibert was then injured with an injury to the groin and Gonzalez played all the matches except one the rest of the path.
In his fourth organization since its beginnings in the league in 2017, Gonzalez was a perfect 27 on 27 on additional points and won the praise of his teammates for the way he managed each situation with ease.
“He is about as little maintenance as they arrive in terms of fact that he just has such a great attitude when he kicked,” said Holder and Punter Tress Way.

Gonzalez has become viral when television cameras surprised him adapting and readjust a sock and put his fingers in his hair several times before kicking 37 yards to beat the Buccaneers in grand listening hours. He spoke of his obsessive-compulsive disorder a few days later, hoping that his story could help others.
“ There are all kinds of people who go through life by treating day -to -day struggles (base), and many things at home do not see: for example, like last night reset my alarm about 100 times by ensuring that it goes somehow on the nerves of my wife.
“Just hearing the stories of others and the things they treat in this direction, it’s always interesting to hear, and it was quite good to see the community come together and help you a little.”
Peters still has a lot of ceiling space to spend, with a free agency that will open next week. Now that Wagner is back in the lap, attention turns to the re-signing of the tight veteran Zach Ertz, who revitalized his career by becoming a sort of security valve for Daniels in the offensive of Kliff Kingsbury.
