Wasatch out, outlaws return to the mixture while Utah Hockey Club continues to walk for a permanent nickname

Just like that, Wasatch is out of the table as a permanent name possible for the NHL UTAH team.

And Outlaws is back into play.

The organization of UTAH in the NHL announced the change Thursday after having fans voted inside the Delta Center during Wednesday’s home match against Pittsburgh’s Penguins. Fans were not warm at the idea of Wasatch, who was a late participant after not having been among the six original finalists. It was only introduced after UTAH encountered brand problems with the company Yeti Cooler and had to abandon the name as a possibility.

The three remaining choices under study are now:

  • Utah mammoth
  • Utah Hockey Club
  • Utah outlaws

These are all among the six original choices identified in the spring, with Venom, Blizzard and Yeti.

While UTAH has encountered obstacles to each of these choices during the author search with the office of American patents and brands, the other three presented the least problems.

Outlaws and mammoth were considered to have any contradictory note that would prohibit registration, with only office errors needing to be erased to secure brands. Yeti, Venom and Blizzard have been refused due to the “probability of confusion” with other recorded brands.

In a non -final decision of the USPTO on January 10, the UTA Hockey Club (HC) was refused because the “brand is mainly geographically descriptive”. But the fact that the name is currently used by the team offers a path to secure it.

As part of the voting process, fans are shown in logo conceptions closely kept to support potential team names. The vote will continue in the next three home games of the team – Friday against the Blue Jackets of Columbus, Sunday against the Saint -Louis and Tuesday against the flyers of Philadelphia.
