Minneapolis – The Golden State Warriors will have to keep their season alive in match 5 without Stephen Curry, who was officially excluded on Tuesday because of his left -wing hammers.
Golden State Trail Le Minnesota Timberwolves 3-1 in their semi-finals of the western conference for the best of seven and will try to repel the elimination at the target center on Wednesday.
“Even if I wanted to be Superman, I couldn’t,” Curry told Marc J. Spears of the Andcape on Monday evening trying to make a comeback for match 5. Curry responded to a comment from his teammate Draymond Green that the Warriors and Curry would not try “Superman this thing” if the star is not fully ready to come back.
Curry will be reassessed on Wednesday. He underwent the hamstring injury in the second quarter of the Warriors match 1 victory on May 6.
Without curry, the Warriors lost match 4, 117-110, in Timberwolves on Monday. If the Warriors can extend their season, it would give Curry for another three days of recovery before a potential match 6 Sunday at the Chase Center.
“No, we are not going to Superman this thing,” said Green when he was asked if he expected Curry to try to come back to come back and if so, Green would be part of this conversation. “If he is in a place where he can play, I am sure he will do it. He and Rick (Celebrini, VP Warriors of the health and performance of the players) and everyone will understand it. But we do not need (Curry to try to be) Superman.
“I have to play in a long game. If he can, we know he will do it. But there is no pressure. We must understand how to win whether or not.”
Curry was the only warrior listed on the injury report. Green said Jimmy Butler III played in match 4 after not feeling good all day. Butler finished with 14 points and six rebounds, taking only nine shots in 33 minutes.
Green says Curry continues to do everything he can to come back. Now he needs his team to try to keep the season alive.
“He works his tail every day,” said Green. “It is eight, nine hours a day here, doing what he can try to come back. His morale is great. Obviously, no one is excited at the moment. But he is working to come back. That’s all you can do at this stage.”
