The Warriors took a hot start on Sunday, equalized their Road Trip record at 2-2 and returned to the position of playoffs No. 6 in the Western Conference.
After starting slowly in their first three games in the trip, the Warriors exploded out of the door for 44 points at the first quarter and maintained it throughout a 148-106 victory against the San Antonio Spurs.
The total point was the highest of the season, exceeding 140 points against Portland during the regular season opening match on October 23. The Warriors pulled 57.7% of the soil (56 for 97) and were 21 out of 44 to 3 field points. Even Kevon Looney, who had no 3 points all season, entered the act in the first quarter.
“We talked about leaving for better departures and we had a good start,” said Warriors coach Steve Kerr. “The offensive was quite clear, the guys did a good job on the defensive. It set the tone for the whole night.”
Of the 56 goals on the ground of the Warriors, 42 came to assisted baskets.
At 42-31, the Warriors returned to sixth place – the last position which does not include a game game – with the Los Angeles clippers going from the sixth to the eighth to 42-32 after a defeat on the road against the Cleveland horsemen. Eight games remain in the regular season.
Brandin Podziemski led the Warriors with 27 points and had a career summit of seven 3 -point baskets in nine attempts. Moses Moody had 20 points and three 3 points, Buddy Hield 19, Draymond Green14 and Jimmy Butler III and Stephen Curry 13 each.
Keldon Johnson led San Antonio with 19 points, Devin Vassell, adding 12.
The Warriors have improved at 18-5 since the acquisition of Butler and are 11-0 with the starting range of Butler, Curry, Green, Moody and Podziemski. The five players were two figures when the fourth quarter started.
As the Warriors made their first substitution with 5:21 to do in the first quarter, they led 28-16.
In his pre-match speech with journalists, coach Steve Kerr explained why the little program was so successful.
“The group is completed,” said Kerr. “You have the game of BP and Jimmy, the shooting of Moses and Steph, and obviously Draymond anchoring everything. It is a small group, but quite dynamic offensively. It is a kind of range of modern NBA, but not without its challenges against certain clashes.”
After three quarters, the Warriors led by 38 points (111-73) and Podziemski already had a career summit with six 3-point baskets.
The Warriors led 68-44 at halftime with one of their best halves of the season, although against a team of 31-43 Spurs which is without phenomenon of 3 feet 3 inches Victor Wembanyama (Sanguin Caillot), the guardian of’aron Fox (torn tendon) and coach Gregg Popovich (minor avc), who will not come back before the end season.
Curry led the Warriors with 11 points on six shots, even if he did not score 6:20 in the first quarter, the Warriors already leading by 13 points. Butler collected 10 points and four assists and nine green points.
The only negative in the first half was the sight of Jonathan Kuminga who falls hard on his coccyx (similar to that which Curry had last week) and leaving with 5:33 to play in the first half. Kuminga was excluded at halftime, but not with a coccyx injury, but pain in the right ankle.
The highest Warriors of the first quarter of the season included a shooting 17 for 24 (70.8%) to come in a match after having opened with a deficit of 14-2 against New Orleans. The 44 points were tied for the largest quarter of the season, equaling this total on December 8 against Minnesota.
Curry scored only two points – and when he took (and did) his first shot with 6:20 to play and the Warriors already leading 24-11. Butler collected 10 points at the quarter and new green.
Two games remain on a six -game road trip and both have considerable qualifying series ramifications.
The Warriors visit Memphis (44-30) on Tuesday evening, the grizzly guys playing their second match after suddenly shooting the six-year-old coach Taylor Jenkins and replacing him with the acting coach Tuimas Iisalo. Memphis is currently in position n ° 5 in the Western Conference.
Then Thursday evening, the road trip ends in Los Angeles against the Lakers, the fourth seeded at 45-29.
The trip began with consecutive defeats against Miami and Atlanta before a victory over New Orleans when Curry was released with a pelvic bruise.
After the Warriors confront the Lakers, they return to the Chase Center on Thursday to welcome Denver on Friday, then Houston on Sunday.
