Warner Bros. Discovery announces that Max will become HBO Max this summer

May 14, 2025 – During the presentation of Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront in New York today, it has been announced that Max, the first company streaming platform, will be renamed HBO Max this summer.

This development has also been influenced by the evolution of consumer needs, and the fact that no consumer today says that they want more content, but most consumers say they want better content. With other services fulfilling the most basic needs with volume, WBD has clearly distinguished itself through its quality and distinct stories, and no brand has done better and more consistent than HBO.

The return of the HBO brand to HBO Max will further advance the service and amplify the unique character that subscribers can expect from the offer. It is also a testimony to WBD’s desire to continue to iterate with boldly its strategy and its approach – strongly rely on the data and the ideas of consumers – to position themselves as best for success.

During the WBD from the start on stage at Madison Square Garden, JB Perrette, president and chief executive officer of streaming, and Casey Bloys, president and chief executive officer of HBO and Max Content, provided additional details on the upcoming change.

Perrette: “We will continue to focus on what makes us unique – not everything for everyone in a cleaning, but something distinct and great for adults and families. It is really not subjective, not even controversial – our programming is just different.”

Bloys: “With the course on which we hold and a strong momentum that we appreciate, we think that HBO Max represents our current consumption proposal much better. And it clearly states our implicit promise to deliver recognized content as unique and, to steal a line that we have always said at HBO, to pay.”
