Yes, Marvel was trolling us with all these changes to the title of WandaVision’s Agatha-centric spinoff series. Luckily, now he decided to stop playing dumb and reveal her legal name, and it turns out it was Agatha All Along.
The studio also confirmed the premiere date for the Disney Plus show, with two episodes airing simultaneously on September 18 – almost three years after it was first announced.
Kathryn Hahn will of course reprise her Emmy-winning role as the titular witch Agatha Harkness, and will be joined on screen by franchise newcomers Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Patti LuPone, Joe Locke and Aubrey Plaza . Debra Jo Rupp and Emma Caulfield, who were in WandaVision, are also back.
For now, plot details are being kept under wraps, but attendees at Disney’s Upfront presentation were treated to a sneak peek at the show, which may or may not be a musical, giving us a taste of what what we can expect. According to Scarlet Witch Updates on Twitter, the teaser opened with Agatha… as a detective trying to solve a murder.
She glances at a list of dates and sees a familiar name next to October 13: “W. Maximoff.” (It’s a little hard to pin down exactly when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness takes place, but could this be the moment Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda caused Mount Wundagore to collapse on itself, destroying the Darkhold? Or something else entirely?)
“That witch is gone, leaving you in a twisted fate,” Plaza’s character says, suddenly appearing in the scene. “Claw your way out.”
Later, Agatha is seen to have escaped from Wanda’s “prison” and is trying to gather her own group of broom givers. “What witch in her right mind would join Agatha Harkness’s coven?” » says LuPone’s character. Agatha gasps and replies, “I’m not looking for sane witches.”
“It was very important to (head writer Jac Schaeffer) and Mary Livanos, our producer, that there was minimal CGI so that there was very little that wasn’t practical magic. “It was a very exciting thing to put together, that we were able to prove over and over again that we could do it,” Hahn said Deadline. “The sets are incredible… it was just delicious. It was a very immersive experience.”
“Everyone on the creative side was at the top of their game,” LuPone added. “I was talking to someone about the Witches Road about how absolutely beautiful it was, we burst into tears when we got to the set and saw the real Witches Road. It’s beautiful to watch in real time. more than being a fantastic story. It looks like a 100 million dollar movie.
The last time we saw Agatha, she had been “trapped” into her Agnes persona by Wanda/Scarlet Witch. But his misery probably won’t last long. “Who knows, maybe there’s a little song here or there…but no one says anything about it – certainly not me,” Hahn teased to TV Line when asked if the series would spawn another song like “Agatha All Along”.
