Walton Goggins on the big moment of Rick

(This story contains major spoilers of The white lotus Season three, episode seven, “Killer instincts”.)

It may have taken his vacation almost, but Rick Hatchett finally relaxed during the Sunday episode of The white lotus. For Walton Goggins, the wait was considerably longer. The apparent culmination of the trip of his anti-hero was only filmed at the end of the end of the shooting in Thailand, and the relief on his face at the end of the episode is as much as that of Rick.

“It took me six months and seven hours of this experience to smile, to really smile,” explains Goggins The Hollywood Reporter From the penultimate episode of season three. “It’s not joy, but there is contentment or peace for a while. Other actors would have reached this very different way and would have lived their lives. ”

Goggins did not hesitate to see how the White lotus The shooting was for him. Rick’s reasons to be so sneaky have not been revealed until the season is over. “Until the episode four it takes to make the public really understand the motivations of this type, where everyone’s motivations are quite clear in episode one,” he said. “There were so many ways that this guy could have been marginalized as soon as the door is left.”

His motivations were, of course, revenge. Rick revealed to the girlfriend Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) in this fourth episode that his father, who died before his birth, had been killed in Thailand by a developer – the one who owned the location of Koh Samui White Lotus with his magnetic wife played by Lek Patravadi.

But if Jim (played by the new Castmember Scott Glenn) ends up being part of the number of bodies still until the third season, it does not seem that it will be by the hands of Rick. Their force test did not end with a shot but an office chair reversed with care, when Rick decided to bury the ax.

“I have read all the scripts and I knew what it would take to happen at this moment, everything was built towards this,” explains Goggins. “I did not know exactly how this conversation was going to take place with Scott. We did not talk much about it. But there was a particular grip that he made three or four times. I did not speak for a minute. I was just thinking that it had to be obsessed with a person all your life, not taking the fact that you have ruined your life, and to finally have a person.

He continues: “Rick is just a lost boy, right? He just looks for answers as much as he is looking for revenge. And when he saw (Jim) for whom he was, all the pain and all the power that this man had on him had gone. There was no more boogeyman in the closet. ”

Faithful to the indulgent spirit of The white lotusThe murder of abandoned revenge is followed by a Bangkok Bender – with Frank de Sam Rockwell who falls from the wagon in a spectacular way, only two episodes after having delivered a Candide monologue on his colorful trip to sobriety. And even if Frank really lives it, it is Rick who looks the happiest of the events of the day.

“As an actor, all of a sudden, 10,000 pounds withdrew from my shoulders,” said Goggins, who has been friends with Rockwell out of the camera for years. “This smile was so authentic. It was real. And to pass through this experience with Sam was undoubtedly one of the great moments of my life. ”
