Walton Goggins appeared on “CBS Morning” on Monday to discuss the final of “The White Lotus” from HBO, which left fans in shock from its unexpected twists and revelations.
The actor, who portrayed Rick, a man looking for answers on the mysterious past of his father in a luxury station in Thailand, opened the shocking final that no one saw coming.
“I finally have people to talk to,” joked Goggins during the interview, referring to the possibility of keeping the secrets of the final for so long.
Despite numerous theories of fans circulating online, especially on Tiktok, Goggins revealed that no one properly predicts the result of the final. “We have all had the chance to listen to that people tell us their version of history on the street,” he said. “Some of them got closer, but no one guessed it.”
Spoiler warning
The interview included a spoiler warning before discussing the major revelation that Rick’s quest to find the man who, according to him, killed his father, finished with him killing Jim (played by Scott Glenn) – only to discover that Jim was in fact his father.
“I sympathize so much with Rick’s pain, because his whole life story was defined by this event,” said Goggins. He noted that at the time of revelation, the genius of the creator Mike White turned out to be “Rick only had a few seconds to record it before he was dismissed”.
Goggins also discussed a particularly memorable scene with his colleague Sam Rockwell, who delivered an intense monologue in episode five. He revealed that as they are good off -screen friends, they approached the scene with a minimum preparation.
“Sam is a very good friend of me … We haven’t repeated him. We didn’t even really talked about it,” said Goggins. “We just sat in front of this table, and he just entered it as he entered it, and it happened so organically.”
Beyond the shocking paternal revelation, Goggins approached Rick’s relationship with Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), describing her as “the first love story in” The White Lotus “.
“It was always a love story,” said Goggins, explaining how their relationship at the start of the season had evolved considerably from the moment they met three years ago.
Beyond the final, the series continues to stay in the news. At the end of last week, Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, the acclaimed composer of “The White Lotus”, said that he would not be back for season 4. In an interview with the New York Times, the triple winner of Emmy declared that he and the creator Mike White had different visions for the theme song of the show, which started in season 1 and the third season. For the first two seasons of the show, the strange theme song of Tapia de Veer contributed to the disturbing atmosphere of the show with strange sounds, including a recurring refrain “Ooh-Loo-Loo”. But the “Ooh-Loo-Loos” were cut for season 3, triggering confusion.
This season, the composer said that White had more “background music … A song that looks more like something you listen to in Ibiza, in a clubby place with a fresh and sexy atmosphere.” In the end, for season 3, the theme song has become more a traditional living room piece (without the “Ooh-Loo-Loos”), which divided fans of the series.
