Walnut Creek has a new pizzeria and tasting room

Three years after purchasing their first restaurant during the pandemic, Jacquelyn and Michael Baker celebrated the opening of their second restaurant, this one in Walnut Creek.

Pizzalina pizzeria and taproom just opened in the former Sorrento, an Italian restaurant and pizzeria that operated in Walnut Creek for about 45 years, according to Jacquelyn. The Bakers had hoped to open the location in May 2023, but upgrading the space took longer than expected.

Walnut Creek Pizzeria offers homemade pastas, salads and three types of pizza, including New York style, thin crust tavern pizza and Sicilian pan pizza.

Among the flavor combinations: a Korean bulgogi-style pizza ($20-32) with grilled chicken, smoked mozzarella, pickled peppers, sesame seeds and green onions; a zucchini ($18-$28) with roasted honey squash, caramelized onions, smoked scamorza, mozzarella and sage; and the All-in Sicilian ($38) with salami, tomato sauce, burrata, prosciutto and arugula.

The drinks menu features several Bay Area breweries, including Mare Island Brewing Co., East Brother Beer and Mike Hess Brewing, as well as Italian and California wines.

The Bakers opened their first restaurant in San Anselmo during the lockdown, a leap of faith that paid off when the ban on outdoor dining was lifted the same day, and they were able to begin operating. They are now opening the second one just minutes from their home in Concord.

Details: Open 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 2064B Treat Blvd. in Walnut Creek; pizzalina.com/walnut-creek-pizzeria-taproom.
