Volvo will be the first to install Google Gemini in its cars

During yesterday’s I / O conference, Google announced its intention to start putting its cat-cat, Gemini, in various different places, including cars. Today, Volvo said that he was heading forward on the line to be the first to receive new technology.

Volvo said that it was extending its pre -existing partnership with Google – the Swedish automaker was one of the first to adopt the Android Android operating system integrated for its vehicles – to include gem integration through its range of models. Drivers may have more “natural” conversations on their car, including linguistic translation, help from navigation and the search for specific locations. They will even be able to ask the AI assistant to answer questions about the user manual of their vehicle. Volvo framed it as attenuating the “cognitive load” of the driver so that they can keep their eyes on the road.

Drivers can have more “natural” conversations on their car.

Drivers and passengers will be able to use gemini send text messages, get routes, play music and, essentially, all that Google Assistant was able to do. The main difference is that users will not have to use stuck robotic controls, rather based on the capacities of the natural language of Gemini.

Volvo will also now be one of Google’s reference material platforms for development and tests for future automotive technology. This means that Volvo vehicles will get Google’s “new features and updates” before added to the main Android code base.

“Thanks to this partnership with Google, we are able to bring the latest features and capacities of the leading consumption ecosystem in our products first,” said Alwin Bakkenes, head of global software engineering at Volvo Cars, in a press release. “With our expanding partnership, we collaborate on advanced solutions that shape the future of connected cars.”

The annual conference of Google developers, which was held at the Shoreline amphitheater in Mountain View, California, was devoted to Gemini this year. And the car emerges quickly as an important platform for the chatbot, in particular with its myriad of challenges – namely directing a 2 -ton metal box through a complex environment riddled with traps.

Google positions the Gemini as a team player with the other basic parts of the vehicle operating system. “Navigation applications can be integrated into gemini using three basic intention formats, allowing you to start navigation, display relevant search results and run personalized actions, such as users to report incidents such as traffic congestion by using their voice,” wrote Ben Sagmoe, engineer of relationships with developers, on the Android Developers blog.
