Mumbai-based Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), which handled over 2.4 lakh tonnes of seafood, valued at 6,396 crore is ranked behind Visakhapatnam Port, followed by Cochin Port in third position, recording over 1.81 lakh tonne (6,120 million).

This achievement positions Visakhapatnam Port at the forefront of the national seafood export sector,” Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) Secretary T Venu Gopal said in a press release. According to Venu Gopal, India’s seafood exports have reached a record high of nearly 18 lakh. ton during the previous financial year, with a value 60,534 billion.

This record was also achieved despite foreign demand challenges, although India managed to export seafood to 132 countries, with the United States and China becoming the main importers. Frozen shrimp is the most exported product.

The young aquaculture ecosystem of Andhra Pradesh is a major factor contributing to the performance of Vizag Port, particularly the production of the ‘vannamei’ variety of shrimp. Seafood exports from Odisha through the port also provided a tailwind.
