Virginia woman accidentally wins $1 million Powerball ticket – NBC Chicago

Sometimes a mistake can turn out to be the best decision you ever made.

That’s what happened to a Virginia woman when she mistakenly bought a Powerball ticket instead of another jackpot ticket last month.

According to the Virginia Lottery, Miriam Long went to a CVS pharmacy in Blacksburg in March to purchase a ticket for the estimated $893 million Mega Millions jackpot.

However, she “accidentally” pressed the wrong button and the machine gave her a Powerball Easy Pick ticket.

His numbers, 10-17-20-39-44, matched the first five winning numbers in the March 18 Powerball drawing. The only number he was missing was the Powerball, which was 16.

“The lesson didn’t really go as planned.” Maths teacher Nicholas Kapoor bought a Powerball ticket to demonstrate how unlikely it is to win the lottery – and he went on to win $100,000. Here’s what he wants you to know about playing Powerball.

“My heart was pounding!” » she told lottery officials. “It’s overwhelming!”

Nonetheless, his mistake ended up earning him a $1 million cash prize.

“This is the best mistake of my life!” she says.

The CVS that sold him the ticket also received a $10,000 prize from the Virginia Lottery, officials said in a statement.

Powerball is played in 45 states, plus Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings take place at 10:59 p.m. EST at the Florida Lottery studio in Tallahassee.
