As Jayson Tatum went from promising young star to superstar to NBA champion, he relied on his mother, Brandy Cole, every step of the way.

When the Celtics clinched the title Monday night, Tatum embraced Cole on the court in a full circle.

Cole raised him as a single mother and always encouraged him to dream big, and this was the culmination of all their hard work over the years.

The NBA released a video on social media Sunday morning highlighting the connection between Tatum and Cole.

It begins with a photo of them taken years ago, at which point someone asks Tatum, “What one thing would you like to say to this kid and his mother?” »

“One day it will all be worth it,” Tatum replied.

The video then shows Cole sharing what it would mean for Tatum and the Celtics to win a championship.

“It would mean everything,” Cole said. “It would kind of solidify everything he’s worked for and culminate everything he’s been doing since he was that age, really. It’s one of his biggest dreams.

Next comes the confetti, once the title is sealed, with the two shouting at each other in jubilation.

“What will they say now?” » Cole shouted.

“What will they say now?” Tatum responded.

Tatum closed his eyes, applied it to her, then gave her a long, encompassing hug.

Tatum then tells her he loves her, and she says she loves him too.

“I’m so proud of you,” Cole said.
