Watch: Video emerged of ICE agent who shot Minneapolis woman

Video filmed by the U.S. immigration agent who shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday has been released, showing the moments before the shooting.

The 47-second footage, obtained by Minnesota-based Alpha News, shows Renee Nicole Good sitting behind the wheel of her car and speaking to the officer.

US Vice President JD Vance shared the video on social media, commenting that the agent had acted in self-defense. Local authorities insisted the woman posed no danger.

Good’s wife paid tribute to the 37-year-old, saying the pair were trying to support their neighbors when she was shot. His death sparked protests across the United States.

President Donald Trump’s administration said Good tried to run over the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent after he blocked the road and obstructed his work.

The BBC has asked the Department of Homeland Security and the White House for comment on the new video released Friday.

The footage begins with the officer getting out of his car and filming Good’s vehicle as he drives around it. A dog is in the back seat.

Good said, “It’s good, man. I’m not mad at you.”

A second woman, presumably his wife, stands in the street and films the interaction with her cell phone. She appears to tell the ICE agent, “We don’t change our plates every morning… just so you know, it will be the same plate when you come talk to us later.”

She adds: “Want to come over to us? I tell you to go get yourself some lunch, big guy.”

Another officer approaches Good from the driver’s side and uses an expletive, saying, “Get out of the car.” »

The officer filming the clip moves in front of Good’s car as she reverses.

In a few chaotic seconds, she turns the steering wheel to the right and moves forward.

The camera suddenly rises towards the sky. “Wow, wow!” » » says a voice, while we hear explosions.

In the last part of the video, we see the car veer onto the road. The ICE agent swears.

Other previously released videos from the scene show ICE agents surrounding the vehicle remaining standing as the maroon SUV crashes onto the side of the road.

The FBI is investigating the incident.

Asked about the video at the White House on Friday, President Trump said: “You have agitators and we will always protect ICE, and we will always protect our Border Patrol and our law enforcement.” »

On Friday, Vance reposted the video on X and defended the officer’s actions, saying, “The reality is his life was in danger and he shot in self-defense.”

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt also reposted the video, saying the media had defamed an ICE agent who had “properly defended himself to avoid being crushed.”

Good’s wife, Becca Good, told local media that the two men had gone to the scene of immigration enforcement activities to support their neighbors.

“We had whistles,” she said. “They had weapons.”

Speaking of Good, she said that “kindness radiated from her.”

“We raised our son to believe that no matter where you come from or what you look like, we all deserve compassion and kindness,” she added.

A dispute erupted Thursday between Minnesota officials and the federal government when Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) said it had been denied access to evidence related to the case.

The BCA said the FBI initially said there would be a joint investigation, but later changed its position.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, accused the Trump administration of stonewalling state officials, but Vice President Vance said the investigation was a federal matter.

Previously, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed the ICE agent shot Good because she was trying to run over the officer in her car.

But Democratic Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called that account a false narrative, saying it was clear to him that Good was trying to leave the scene, not attack an officer.

In Minneapolis and other U.S. cities on Thursday evening, demonstrators took part in a second night of protests against Good’s killing.

Protests took place in Houston, Cincinnati, Washington DC, Philadelphia and other cities, with some demonstrators holding signs calling for the abolition of ICE.

Governor Walz said he activated the state National Guard to help with security for the protests.
