Running, in no case, like someone who has just been very publicly dropped, the governor of Utah, Spencer Cox, announced that the Sundance Film Festival made a big mistake by leaving it, before trying the extremely delicate “and I have already evolved, anyway”. In a public statement made late last night, Cox said that “in the meantime” – until Robert Redford and the most concerned moviegoers on the planet come back to him after their celebration of decade planned with Boulder – we will continue to do what we have always done: support the messages of Festival film – the one that honors our inheritance and writes the next chapter of the independent film of UTAH. »»
(Cox did not continue to add that his own film festival would also have blackjack and sex workers, because, well … utah.)
Despite his sudden “who even needs Sundance anyway?” Attitude, it should be noted that Cox tried like hell to keep the festival in the state, allocating millions of incentives in order to try to keep it away from this rectangular shell, Colorado. Of course, he could not change the basis that he did all this in Utah; Cox is a somewhat moderate republican operating in a state in which its legislatures takes place path More right than him, to the point that he vetoed several Maga red meat instances – including the prohibitions of transgender athletes – only for his veto to be replaced. The most recent problem to set up was the ban on showing unofficial flags in government buildings that almost all those involved included as a tacit attack against the flags of pride; Cox let the bill pass without its signature this week, alongside a public declaration which essentially said “What would even be the point?” None of this reaches the state to the person who decided the future of Sundance, in particular as one of the sponsors of the bill, the senator from the Dan McCay state, made public statements that “Sundance promotes porn”. (He also declared “goodbye, Felicia” in 2025, which is a whole category distinct from pubic embarrassment.)
However, however, we are delighted to see what type of COX film festival is capable of preparing now; Nothing like watching an independent film flourish in an environment where legislators actively condemn you for things like “promote alternative lifestyles”, right?
