Rome – The City of Venice confirmed on Saturday that it will welcome the marriage of the multi -millionaire Jeff Bezos and the fiancée Lauren Sanchez, denying information that the famous Italian city would be invaded by hundreds of celebrities and possible disturbances for citizens and tourists.
The city in a short declaration did not give a date for marriage. The Italian media reported that it will be between June 24 to 26, with a few days of celebrations.
“The many speculations and false news that circulates on the marriage of Jeff Bezos are completely unfounded,” the statement said.
Bezos is the owner of the Washington Post and founder and the largest individual shareholder in Amazon. Among others, George and Amal Clooney celebrated their marriage in Venice in 2014.
The city said that only 200 people would be invited, an easily hosted number without any disturbance of the city, its residents and its visitors. He noted that he has a vast experience in managing international events “much more important than that”.
“Venice is used to being the scene of events and shows each week, without significant impacts,” said the city, citing summits G20 and G7, the architectural and cinema biennials, as well as private events and VIP weddings.
Several reports in the Italian and international media have suggested that the Bezos wedding organizers had already reserved rooms in the main luxury hotels in Venice and reserved for a few days at the end of June, a large number of gondolas and water taxis – which are mainly used by residents and tourists for daily transport.
The city has denied these reports, saying that it “is their higher priority to ensure that the city works as normal, for everyone, without abnormal disturbance for anyone.”
“We work each other and support the organizers to ensure that the event will be absolutely respectful of the fragility and uniqueness of the city,” said Mayor Luigi Brugnaro.
