Venezuela bans X as Maduro expands crackdown

More than 2,000 people protesting Maduro’s likely fraudulent victory have been arrested in recent weeks, with the president saying the opposition should be jailed and media workers expelled from the country. Attempts to stifle dissent have led Venezuela to operate more like a police state, experts say: “Maduro miscalculated, and in a very serious way,” Ryan Berg of the Center for Strategic and International Studies told Bloomberg. “In order to stay in power, Maduro has moved the country in the direction of Nicaragua, which is a total police state.”
