Vantika Agarwal, who recently won the prestigious Arjuna Prize, opened the challenges it was faced in its trip to the top and why the northern part of India still needs failure to raise awareness. In his recent interview with the India timeVantika approached various subjects, including how her love story with the game started and why she still hasn’t received invitations to elite tournaments.

Vantika would have encountered failures by accident. She and her brother fell into the chess room during the zero period of their school and hung on to the game. Vantika quickly persuaded her mother to register them for the Genius Chess Academy in Noida. She started training with local coaches before taking advice from great masters like Praveen Thipsay, Tejas Bakre and Vishnu Prasanna.

“Before failures, I was involved in many activities, such as skating, dance, music, art, cricket, etc. I mean, I was doing all kinds of sports and I engaged in these activities. After my first victory in a tournament, I never looked back, ”said Vantika quoted by you.

Vantika also talked about the challenges she faced and continues to meet. She pointed out how many people in northern India remain unconscious of failures, reflecting the striking contrast in the cultivation of failures compared to southern India.

“The challenge I faced is like (one) I am always confronted. In northern India, there is no chess culture. In the south, you have academies, but here, no culture. If someone asks what you do, and you say: “I am a chess player”, their answer is generally “, okay, but what do you really do? What are you studying? ‘ I think it’s always the same story, even after winning so many medals. People always ask: “Chess is fine, but what do you really do?” She said.

Without being discouraged by these obstacles, Vantika remains focused on proving itself thanks to the participation in each open tournament possible. She has not yet received invitations to high-level tournaments, but her ultimate goal is clear, to collaborate with the best Indian and international grandmother to refine her game.

“I won two gold medals at Olympiad, but I still do not receive invitations to high-level tournaments,” she added.

Vantika Agarwal also focuses on becoming a great master and crossing the note of 2500. In February 2025, the faithful rating of Vantika is 2411.
