Vance says that the agreement to sell Tiktok will be contacted before the deadline for the weekend

Vice-president JD Vance told Fox News on Thursday that he thought that the Trump administration would conclude an agreement for the sale of Tiktok before a deadline to come this weekend.

“I think we are in a good place,” said Vance in an interview on Fox and friends. “We will continue to work there.”

The popular social media platform is faced with a possible ban in the United States for the second time this year if his parent company based in China, Bytedance, does not conclude an agreement to sell partial property by Saturday, April 5. Vance and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz was responsible for supervising the sale in early February.

On Wednesday, the New York Times reported for the first time that Amazon had made a last -minute offer to buy Tiktok. Reuters later reported that a start-up managed by Tim Stokely, the founder of the adult content site only fans, had teamed up with a cryptocurrency foundation to submit a last minute offer to buy the application.

On January 19, Tiktok temporarily became dark for its 170 million American users, after months of fighting the federal government’s demand to separate from Byédance due to national security problems. But the breakdown lasted only a few hours before access to the application was restored, according to a message displayed to users, “following President Trump’s efforts.”

In one of the first official acts of his second mandate in the White House, Trump signed an executive decree delaying the application of Tiktok’s ban for 75 days and proposed that the United States hold 50% of the platform, in what it called a “joint venture”.

Trump has already said that he was ready to extend the current deadline of April 5 if an application on the application was not concluded in time. However, the president seemed confident on March 30 about the sales potential when he told journalists on Air Force One that he expected to conclude an agreement to sell the imminent platform.

“We have a lot of potential buyers. There is a huge interest in Tiktok,” said Trump. “I would like to see Tiktok stay alive.”

Last week, Trump suggested that he was willing to reduce prices on China to conclude an agreement with Bytedance.

The future of Tiktok in the United States has been uncertain since April 2024, when the president of the time, Joe Biden, signed a law adopted by the congress requiring that the popular app be sold or prohibited in the United States, the administration of Biden and the legislators on both sides of the aisle have argued that the Chinese property of Tiktok presents a potential threat to national security, and the Supreme Court was moving Advance the January bank.

What happens to Tiktok if there is no agreement by April 5?

If Tiktok is not sold to an approved buyer by April 5, the original law prohibiting access to the United States platform could theoretically come into force.

However, the deadline of April 5 is not set in stone. Trump or Congress could again extend the deadline, even if Vance told NBC News: “We would like to do (sale) do without extension.”

And although Trump has already extended the deadline, it is not clear that the extension of the extension would violate the law signed by Biden. The law prohibits Tiktok from operating in the United States if it continues to use algorithms controlled by Bytedance. However, it could be difficult to challenge Trump’s decision to postpone the deadline before the court, because the law also grants a certain flexibility to the president for its application, CNN reported.

Is bytedance interested in selling tiktok?

Tiktok’s parent company, Bytedance, previously said that it did not intend to sell Tiktok, partially citing the Chinese government’s opposition to a sale. However, on January 20, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MAO Ning, told journalists that the decision “should be decided independently by companies in accordance with market principles”.

Two days later, the CEO General of the Atlantic, Bill Ford, member of the board of directors and major investor in Bytedance, said at an Axios event in Davos, Switzerland, that he thought that Bytedance would soon reach an agreement to sell the application.

“We are going to continue, as soon as perhaps the end of the week, in terms of negotiation of what could work,” said Ford. “The Chinese government, the American government and the company and the board of directors must all be involved in this conversation.”

Who talked about buying tiktok?

Several points of sale have reported that the Oracle Corporation is the tiktok purchase precursor. Oracle is one of the largest software companies in the world and one of the three main donors behind the Infrastructure Infrastructure Infrastructure of Trump. Tiktok has worked with Oracle to store and process user data in the United States since 2020. Asked about the Tiktok agreement at a press conference on January 21, Trump said, referring to the co-founder of Oracle and Director of Larry Ellison technology, “I would like Larry to buy it.” But Trump said on January 25 that he had not talked directly about Ellison about the sale.

Several American companies and entrepreneurs have also offered to buy Tiktok in Bytedance, notably Frank McCourt, the former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the founder of Project Liberty, who gathered a group of investors in December. One of these investors was Shark tank Host Kevin O’Leary, who told Yahoo Finance that the group was “ready to pay up to $ 20 billion” for the application. Project Liberty announced on January 9 that he had officially submitted a proposal to Bytedance to buy Tiktok.

A creator on YouTube, Jimmy Donalds, better known as MRBEAST, posted on January 15 that he had met several billionaires and also had “an offer ready to buy tiktok. A Donaldson spokesperson Matthew Hiltzik told Yahoo News on January 23 that “although several potential buyers are undergoing current discussion with Jimmy, he has no exclusive agreement with any of them.”

Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal reported that representatives of the Chinese government had discussed the sale of Tiktok to Elon Musk, who also owns X. However, Musk said at an economic summit in late January that he was not in interest to buy the application.

“I did not make an offer for Tiktok, and I have no plan for what I would do if I had Tiktok,” said Musk in a video published on February 8 by the Welt group, which welcomed the summit. He later said that he did not use the platform and did not know him.

“I do not acquire companies in general, it is quite rare,” he continued, clarifying that his acquisition in 2022 of X, formerly known as Twitter, was “unusual”.

Companies like Oracle, Walmart and Microsoft expressed their interest in buying Tiktok in 2020. Trump told journalists on January 27 that Microsoft was again in talks to buy Tiktok, although Microsoft never commented on the issue. In 2021, Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella described the defaulting agreement the “strangest thing I ever worked on”.
