Val Kilmer was “the coolest cat,” recalls his Top gun Co-Star Barry Tubb.
In the 1986 hit who killed a star, Tubb played Wolfman, the Kilmer’s Iceman winger, and Tubb spoke to BBC News after the death of Kilmer this week at the age of 65.
Tubb told the BBC: “He was the coolest cat I have ever met. Not only had large actor chops, but he was funny like hell.”
The actor remembered moving on the set between the sockets, with Kilmer using a personal video camera to make a personal recording. Some of these images were then included in his documentary in 2021 Valvewho traced his career and health challenges.
Tubb remembered: “He had the first video camera that I never saw. They were so tired of telling him to turn it off on the set of Top gun that they finally dropped.
“We had a moment of pleasure with that because we tried to catch everyone on the toilet with the video camera. It was our cotton. So there is a video somewhere from everyone with the door open on the toilet. We were traffic jams.”
Tubb told BBC News that the rivalry on the screen between Iceman and Maverick (Tom Cruise) and their respective Wolfman and Goose wingers (Anthony Edwards) have reflected in the distribution time, with Cruise distancing itself in corridors and things. “
Cruise and Kilmer remained friends in the following years, and the pair was gathered on the screen for the future Top Gun: Maverick In 2022. Cruise paid tribute to Kilmer this week on stage in Cinemacon, asking for a moment of silence to remember his co-star.
