Val Kilmer asked Will Forte to make “the incredible breed” together

Will Forte wrote an emotional essay in the first person for Vulture in which he remembered his friendship with the late Val Kilmer, who died on April 1 of pneumonia at 65. The two actors were co-stars of the 2010 “Macgruber” comedy, which was based on the popular “SNL” sketch of the same name. Kilmer played the role of the wicked Dieter von Cutant. According to Forte, Kilmer “literally gave me the shirt of his back” during the tray.

“Macgruber” was the beginning of a beautiful friendship between the two actors. Strong writing that when Kilmer “had a dispute with its owner” in Malibu, California, he asked if he could move. Strong and Kilmer then lived together for two and a half months. It was during this period that Strong presented kilmer on reality TV, in particular “The Amazing Race”, that Kilmer “really had”.

“Then, at some point, he said,” Will, you and I have to go “the incredible race”. We owe. We really excited about it, then we called our respective agents and managers, and they said to themselves: “There is no way you do this. It is perhaps to this day the greatest regret of my entire career – that I have never done “The Amazing Race” with Val “.

“I think we would have come out very quickly, but it would have been the experience of a life,” added strong on what could have been.

“I would like to have more time to remember the old stories,” he adds later. “There are so many memories that I leave aside. I am sure we talked about collaborating on other things together, but nothing really serious … It was always like,” Oh, I’m going to go to do this thing for Francis Ford Coppola “or something like that. In one way or another, we were lucky to do it again.

In the wake of the death of Kilmer, countless tributes flocked from its famous co-stars and directors. Tom Cruise, who played with Kilmer in the emblematic film “Top Gun”, was in Cinemacon this week to promote “Mission: Impossible – The Final Recalling” and asked for a moment of silence in honor of Kilmer.

“I would like to honor a dear friend, Val Kilmer,” said Cruise from the Caesars Palace scene. “I cannot tell you how much I admire his work, how grateful and honored when he joined” Top Gun “and returned later for” Top Gun: Maverick “… I wish you good luck on the next trip.”
