Utah couple accidentally sends cat to Riverside – NBC Chicago

A Utah couple is thanking their lucky stars after being reunited with their pet cat that they accidentally shipped to an Amazon facility in Riverside, California, while trying to return.

Galena, the cat, is returning home to the Beehive State after the rebellious feline’s tendency to curl up in boxes inadvertently took her on a trip to Southern California.

According to the cat’s owners, Matt and Carrie Stevens Clark, the couple shipped a box of shoes to Amazon for a return. However, little did they know that Galena had made the mistake of making herself comfortable in that same box.

“That was the worst, we just had no idea what happened,” Carrie told NBC affiliate KSL News. “She mysteriously disappeared. We had absolutely no idea what had happened to him.

Desperate to find their beloved pet, the couple distributed flyers in their neighborhood to draw attention to their missing cat. They also called friends, family and neighbors to find out where Galena was.

With no leads to locate their cat, the couple became discouraged; that is, until they receive a shocking phone call that Carrie describes as “the most astonishing, insane news in the entire world.”

Galena’s microchip was detected 650 miles away in Riverside. An Amazon employee found the cat and took care of it until the family could be reunited.

“I couldn’t even believe she was in California,” she said. “I thought it was a prank. It’s still hard to understand my brain.

According to the Clarks, their cat went unnoticed in the big box and was shipped off.

“We had no idea, so Matt took her to the package drop without knowing our beloved cat was inside,” Carrie said.

Galena went without food or water for six days, but according to her owners, she has since recovered.

“We’re so happy to have him back,” Carrie said. “Oh my God.”
