USC cancels main commencement ceremony as campus rocked by protests

The University of Southern California has canceled its main commencement ceremony, citing new security measures put in place days after the Los Angeles school was rocked by student protests against the war in Gaza.

The university announced Thursday the cancellation of the May 10 main stage ceremony, a day after more than 90 students were arrested on campus. USC was among dozens of colleges and universities to hold protests on campus just weeks before the protests began; several resulted in violence and arrests as police attempted to clear student encampments that sprung up on school grounds.
