US stocks recover from declines and close higher

U.S. stocks are recovering from declines seen in the last hour of trading to close broader indexes higher. President of the Atlanta Fed. Bostic said he couldn’t rule out the possibility that the rate cuts would extend even further, but he later reversed course, saying that if disinflation resumed, he could push forward with the cuts.

This reversed the NASDAQ index from 16,183 to 16,306.64 at the close, a change of 123 points (or 0.76%) over the last 50 minutes of the day. The S&P went from 5174 to 5209, a change of 35 points (or 0.68%).

The final figures show:

  • The Dow Industrial Average fell -9.15 points or -0.02% to 38883.66
  • The S&P index rose 7.54 points or 0.14% to 5,209.92
  • The NASDAQ index rose 52.68 points or 0.32% to 16,306.64.

The small-cap Russell 2000 gains 7.08 points or 0.34% to 2,080.79
