US stocks and strong week with strong gains. NASDAQ is leading the charge.

Major U.S. stock indexes jumped today, led by the NASDAQ index which rose more than 2.0%.

The catalyst was lower than the core PCE data released by the Federal Reserve. This measure of inflation is the Fed’s preferred measure of inflation. Given yesterday’s GDP day, with core quarterly PCE data beating expectations, the fear was a surprise to the upside today. The MoM registered as expected at 0.3%. There have been rumors of a +0.4 to +0.5% level after yesterday’s data.

Today’s final figures show:

  • Dow Industrial Average averaged 153.84 points or +0.40% to 38,239.67.
  • S&P index up 51.54 points or 1.02% to 5099.95.
  • NASDAQ index up 316.14 points or 2.03% to 15927.90.

The small-cap Russell 2000 index rose 20.8 points or 1.05% to 2001.99.
