Upward arrests of the unauthorized Deltopia festival for the fourth consecutive year

Arrests at the annual Deltopia Street unauthorized celebration of Santa Barbara increased for the fourth consecutive year this weekend, more than to double the number of arrests from 2024, the authorities announced.

The Deltopia festival of Isla Vista weekend, which attracts thousands of local students in noisy festivities near the beach, has seen arrests and quotes developing each year since 2021, according to statistics published by the Sheriff’s Bureau of Santa Barbara.

This year, 84 people were arrested and 485 people received quotes. In 2024, there were 32 arrests and 254 quotes. The previous year, there were 23 arrests and 151 quotes.

While Friday evening was quite calm, weekend activities increased on Saturday, according to the Sheriff’s office.

“On Saturday had a significant increase in the size of the crowd and emergency medical calls, most of which were linked to alcohol poisoning,” the office said in a statement published on Monday. “MPs and coordinated officers with fire and medical teams, using pre-plane rescue units to respond to calls and clear roads in densely packaged areas, guaranteeing rapid access to ambulances. Fortunately, there was no death reported by the cliff falls or the fentanyl force.

The most serious arrest last weekend came when the police arrested a group of people on Saturday morning on Marketplace Drive while the group was heading for Deltopia. One of the members of the group was in possession of a busy pistol, said the sheriff’s office.

Officials also arrested six as part of a one -month -old investigation on a plot to violate a festival order. The authorities arrested in a house where there was a paid party with tickets sold on a ticket platform.

The sheriff’s office noted that no one died this year. There were no fentanyl overdoses and no falls on the cliff side.

In 2023, a junior from the UC Santa Barbara died of a fentanyl overdose at the festival and more than a decade ago, a student from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo fell from a cliff and died.
