UPS driver shot dead in Orange County; Irvine police search for suspect at large

IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) — A UPS driver was shot and killed while sitting in his truck Thursday afternoon in an industrial park in Irvine, police said.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. near Chrysler and Bendix, according to the Irvine Police Department. Several people reported hearing several gunshots.

The victim, a man, was found in the driver’s seat of his truck. Officers pulled him out and attempted to render aid, but were ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been revealed.

It’s unclear if the victim was followed to the industrial park or if the suspect was waiting for him, but police say it does not appear to be a robbery and that the UPS driver was caught for target.

Video from AIR7 HD showed a police awning set up next to a UPS truck as officers canvassed the area for evidence. The immediate area was marked off with yellow crime scene tape.

Police will remain on scene for several hours due to the investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around 3 p.m. to call IPD at (949) 724-7200.
