The third goal of the New York Yankees, Oswaldo Cabrera, was placed on the IL with a fracture of the left ankle, the team announced on Tuesday. This decision occurs one day after the interior field player was withdrawn from the field in an ambulance during the ninth round of the 11-5 Monday victory against the Seattle Mariners (box score). Cabrera suffered the injury while scoring the third goal on a sacrificial fly by Aaron judge.
The ankle de Cabrera seemed to be caught under his own body weight while he escapes the label of the Receiver of Seattle Cal Raleigh and reached marble.
“He’s in the hospital,” said manager Aaron Boone. “I think everyone understands that it was a fairly serious situation. I just pray for our taxi guy tonight and hoping for the best.” Boone added that Cabrera, who had suffered clearly, had asked the judge “Did I marked?” Before he was loaded on the ambulance.
Cabrera, 26, entered Monday by hitting .243 / .319 / .311 (81 ops +) with a home run and 11 points struck during its first 33 games this season. He entered this season after having displayed an oblique bar line. 233 / .291 / .352 (80 OPS +) with 19 circuits and 15 bases stolen during his first 26 career games.
Cabrera went 1 for 4 in the match on Monday, reaching the ninth round by distinguishing the lift from the Mariners Troy Taylor. He would go to the second row on a Hitsman, then headed for the third on a simple by Trent Grisham. (Grisham had dominated twice in the match, helping the Yankees to build their advance along the way.)
The Yankees should activate the veteran field player DJ Lemahieu before Tuesday’s match. If Cabrera’s injury is as serious as possible, Lemahieu can slip into the third base without much friction – either in a starting line or an active list perspective. Lemahieu had missed the first month and more of the season with a calf injury.
“The DJ Lemahieu could fall from the bed and strike,” said Boone before Monday’s match. “I think the most important thing that has sparked it over the years is the stubborn injuries that have arisen and slowed it down.”
The Yankees left the match on Monday with a 24-17 file, good for first place in the American League East. The Boston Red Sox lost on Monday, which means that the Yankees enter Tuesday with a three -game advance in the division.
