1. Bad night in Littlejohn, while Clemson goes to an 85-65 victory against Carolina. He equaled Clemson’s biggest victory for all time in the series.
2. Carolina was outstripped and overwhelmed by Clemson in this match. In a game they needed a lot, the Tar Heels saw Clemson play harder and execute better. Tigers are an experienced and good team – and they looked like it, even by winning an emotional victory here on Saturday evening.
3. Statistics, as you can imagine, are not pretty. Clemson pulled 50.8% of the field, pulled 48% on a three-point range, dominated the backboards 41-27 … They did everything they needed to win the match. The Tigers pulled more free throws than UNC, the eighth time that the one that occurred in the last 12 games. Carolina pulled more free throws than the opponent in nine of the first 13 games.
4. You cannot blame the effort of RJ Davis And Trimble Seth. The contributions of these two, more a success of Caroline with the press on a possession in the first half and even in the second period, were roughly the extent of the light points. Davis scored 18 points and Trimble had 12.
5. With the solid first line line of Clemson, the Tar Heels have adjusted the starting program and went with two post players, such as the guard trio of Elliot Gift,, RJ Davis And Trimble Seth seal Ven-Allen Lubin And Jae’lyn Withers. This is the first time that the heels have used this starting combination this year (the sixth group different from starters this season), and was the first departure of the Withers since the Michigan State match in Maui.
6. Turnover was again a problem. Elliot Gift Hired four in the first 16 minutes, the sixth time in the last 10 games that he had at least four reversals. He finished with six and Carolina when a team hired 13. Fortunately, the Tigers only transformed them 15 points.
7. It was part of a first half which saw Clemson shoot 56% on the field and Victor Lahkin accumulated 20 points in 14 minutes on a shot of 8 for 11, including 4 for 4 to three points. Lahkin finished with 22 points.
8. The efforts of the perimeter of Lahkin were an integral part of half that saw the tigers go 8 for 12 to three. Carolina pulled 50% of the field in the first half … and has always dragged by 16 at the break. The heels have tried a full-fledged press on possession in the first half. This led to a turnover, but it was the only appearance for this set in the first 20 minutes.
9. Ian Jackson The difficulties continue. His shot does not fall from the field, and he begins to have an impact on his game at both ends. Jackson finished 0-in-8 on the field, his second 0 for the consecutive land, because he only played 17 minutes. Jackson now has 18-61 (29.5%) in his last six games. This is by no means exclusively a jackson problem – the heels just find it difficult to find an offense from anywhere now.
10. The press must be a larger part of Carolina’s plan in the future. Tar Heels need the easy rating opportunities that it sometimes creates. He will certainly give up occasional easy baskets, but the Tar Heels do not play very well defensively in the Halfcourt. The one who encourages the statistics of the whole game is that Caroline forced 15 Clemson reversals. They must find a way to do it more often.
11. The defeat dropped Tar’s heels 3-6 on the road, and they now dropped four immediately from the Smith Center. Another road match appears on Saturday in Syracuse.
12. Clemson has now won five of the last nine games in this series.
