In a letter addressed to the prefect of police of Paris, unions deplore that the service of order of the demonstration in the capital was “targeted” by the police. They are asking for an investigation to be opened.
The Ile-de-France regional unions of the CGT, FO, FSU and Solidaires unions demand “the opening of an investigation” to determine why the security service of the Paris demonstration on October 18 was “targeted” by the police, according to a letter obtained by AFP on October 21.
We cannot accept multiple police charges on the union procession
If there were “few incidents on the course”, with a “change in behavior on the part of the police compared to the previous Prefect (no use of tear gas, presence of the maintenance of the more discreet order…)”, “we cannot accept several police charges on the union procession”, write the unions to the prefect of police of Paris Laurent Nuñez, successor of Didier Lallement.
“Very few overflows”, according to the police headquarters
“If most of these charges stopped at the level of the union order service without going into frontal contact, in front of the Ministry of Overseas it is indeed the SO [service d’ordre] of the square of head which was targeted by police forces”, deplore the unions. Blows “were delivered (including to the head),” they claim.
Another incident involved a team of police officers on motorcycles (Brav-M) who “crossed the procession at the level of the CGT regional truck”.
In total, there were “seven injured in the ranks of the CGT including a comrade for an open wound in the head requiring the laying of five staples”, according to the unions.
The Paris police chief had noted on October 18 that there had been “very few overflows” in the demonstration, reporting 11 arrests. Asked by AFP, the police headquarters said that Laurent Nuñez was going to “respond to the mail sent by the unions on this subject which he exchanged directly with Philippe Martinez”.
