Union Minister Rajnath Singh eyes third consecutive term

Uttar Pradesh, with 80 parliamentary constituencies, was scheduled to vote in all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. In the upcoming elections, the Samajwadi Party (SP) fielded Lucknow central MP Ravidas Mehrotra against Singh, while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) nominated Sarwar Malik.

The Congress party won the Lucknow seat six times, while the BJP secured eight victories. Vijay Lakshmi Pandit, the sister of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, was the first MP to occupy this prestigious seat. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also a five-time MP from Lucknow.

The Lucknow Lok Sabha seat comprises five Assembly constituencies: Lucknow East, Lucknow West, Lucknow Central, Lucknow North and Cantt Assembly seats.

Voting date

The Lucknow Lok Sabha seat is expected to vote in the fifth phase on May 20. Votes will be counted on June 4.

For the upcoming general elections, Rajnath Singh is contesting for the third time as a BJP candidate, against Ravidas Mehrotra of the SP and Sarwar Malik of the BSP. In addition, seven other candidates are vying for this seat.
