‘Unexpected result for everyone’, Ashok Gehlot accepts defeat and resigns today – Firstpost

Acknowledging the defeat of the Congress in Rajasthan, Gehlot said, “We humbly accept the mandate given by the people of Rajasthan. This is an unexpected result for everyone. This defeat shows that we have not completely succeeded in making our projects, our laws and our innovations known to the public.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will submit his resignation to Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra after the Congress lost the state to the BJP on Sunday.

According to PTIsources said Gehlot is expected to meet Governor Mishra at 5:30 p.m.

The BJP won 114 of the 199 seats in Rajasthan while the Congress won 70 seats.

Acknowledging the defeat of the Congress in Rajasthan, Gehlot said, “We humbly accept the mandate given by the people of Rajasthan. This is an unexpected result for everyone. This defeat shows that we have not completely succeeded in making our projects, our laws and our innovations known to the public.”

He added, “I wish all the best to the new government… All projects, including OPS, Chiranjeevi and the pace of development we have given to Rajasthan in these five years, should be continued…”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated BJP party workers for the party’s landslide victory in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

“The results in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan indicate that the people of India are firmly committed to the policies of good governance and development, that the @BJP4India represents,” he said.

Modi is expected to address party members at 6:30 p.m. at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.
