Khan Younis, Gaza Strip – The Army and Shin Bet confirmed on Sunday that a body extracted by Israeli forces in a tunnel in the south of Gaza this weekend is that of the chief of Hamas Mohammed Sinwar.
The announcement occurred a few hours after the time of Israel made a tour in the tunnel in which the commander of terrorism was killed, during a media tour organized by the Israeli defense forces.
Sinwar, brother of October 7, the brain Yahya Sinwar, was killed during an air strike on May 13 while hiding in a tunnel under the European hospital of Khan Younis, according to the army.
Four other Hamas agents were killed with Muhammad Sinwar, including the commander of the Rafah brigade of Hamas, Muhammad Shabana, and the commander of the southern battalion of Khan Younis, Mahdi Quara, said the FDI.
Two other bodies that belong to them are still being identified by the military.
The 8 -meter deep tunnel where they hid was part of a massive underground network that connected the Rafah and Khan Younis brigades from Hamas. The strikes of Israel, which sent massive plumes of smoke and debris into the air when they took place, targeted two sections of the tunnel in order to trap the commanders between the two, according to the army.
The air strikes struck the areas of the tunnel outside the hospital complex according to the FDI, and the hospital continued to operate after the operation.

Hamas agents suffocated to death in the rubble, said the army.
Israel had pointed out that Sinwar had probably been killed during the attack, but could only confirm his death once the troops moved into the region and recovered the bodies of the tunnels.
The hospital is in a part of Khan Younis that the troops had only participated last week, when soldiers of the Golani Brigade Recognition Company, of the IAF elite unit, and the Yahalom combat engineering unit, took control of the medical complex. Staff and patients fled the area before their arrival.
“We understood that these bodies were very important from the first images when we entered,” said a commander of the company of the Golani brigade recognition company, who can only be identified by his major grade and the initial N. “They were very serious people in the organization.”
“The terrorists that we have withdrawn are important,” he continued, “but not as much as weapons and intelligence that we have withdrawn from here.”
“We have found a military base under a hospital, the final point. There is no other way to say it,” he said.
The information they found, said N., had a direct impact on current combat operations two kilometers.

“We have also found information on the hostages,” he continued. “It’s the biggest. This is why we are all here.”
Unlike most other Gaza parts, many structures are still in the Khan Younis districts of the European Hospital, without a doubt because they were spared from the major soil fight until last month.
From May 20, the 36th division, made up of combat troops of the shielded brigades of Golani, KFIR, and 188th, attacked north of the Morag corridor, a belt controlled by the FDI between Khan Younis and Rafah in the south of Gaza. The maneuver has easily overwhelmed the Hamas defenses which had anticipated an attack from the East.

This decision occurred a few days after Israel launched the tanks of Operation Gideon, a large field operation aimed at taking control of most of the band while moving most of the Gaza civilians.
The purpose of the current field operation “brings the hostages to and reduces the Hamas rule”, the spokesperson for Tdi Brig. General Effie Defrin said on Sunday.
He spoke while the FDIs brought Israeli military journalists – followed by members of the international press – at the hospital, which was built with European Union funds, to show them the tunnel in which Sinwar was killed.
“It was one of the command and control centers that Hamas used to carry out the attacks of October 7 against the border communities of Gaza, the massacre and the murder,” said Defrin above an entrance to the tunnel, meters from the European hospital emergency.

“Hamas uses hospitals in a cynical way,” he continued, adding that “you can see where European funds went”.
Hospital lands have shown significant damage signs from fighting, which included the fight between Israeli forces and small groups of terrorists in and around the complex.

The windows were blown away, some roofs were damaged and the streets were strewn with concrete, reinforcement bars and glass.
Golani’s forces had led a firefighter on the hospital’s field with 7 terrorists who were trying to shoot rockets in the Israeli border communities, a company commander said.
But the buildings were largely intact, and the FDI thinks they can return once the campaign would end.

Nearby, Israeli excavators had cut a steep descent through loose sand in the tunnel. A plastic stretcher used to remove the bodies was near the now exposed passage.

A Golani recognition agent paved the way in the narrow tunnel, a red light on his helmet throwing a ghostly glow on concrete supports.
The sticky and spicy smell of death was overwhelming. The bodies of the five terrorists had remained in the tunnel for three weeks after the May air strike.
The room where they encountered their end had mattresses on the floor, covered with clothes and bottles.

Israeli hostages probably took place in the tunnel at some point, said Major N., a commander of the Golani Brigade’s Elite Recognition Company company.
The troops found two firearms, explosives, cards, operational plans and identity cards inside the underground room where the terrorists died.
The time of the entry of Israel in the tunnel under the European hospital came while four soldiers killed in the explosion of construction on Friday in the Gaza Strip of the South were buried throughout the country.
“We are destroying trapped houses,” said Defrin. “Any other house has tunnels or weapons.”
Israeli troops do not go to houses if it is not necessary, he insisted.

According to Golani’s adult, there is a defined procedure which must be followed before a soldier enters a building, including the approval of a battalion commander
“And when we go to the house because he has an enemy infrastructure, he has terrorists, there is information,” he said.
Hamas fighters in Khan Younis are carrying out elite shooting attacks, buildings trapping crazy and trying to embusle the forces of TDI before fleeing, police said in the hospital.

Force protection was being priority on speed in the current operation, noted Defrin.
“Therefore, it is not a rapid, but secure action,” he said. “It’s a long war. It’s complex. You see the challenges. “
He spoke when Israel has marked 611 days since the invasion of Hamas in the south of Israel on October 7, 2023, which sparked the war.
This assault killed some 1,200 people and saw 251 others hostage. Gaza terrorist groups continue to contain 55 hostages, including bodies of at least 33 dead confirmed by the FDI, and 20 which would be alive. There are serious concerns for the well-being of two others, have said Israeli officials.
“We will act to shorten the war, because we understand the implications of such a long war,” promised Defrin. “But we have missions to accomplish and we will accomplish them.”

With the four deaths, Israel’s toll in the soil offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations along the border with the strip is 429.
“It’s long, yes,” said N. “he exhausts you. But it’s important.”
