Little by Paris St Germain on the quarter -final scene of the Champions League, Aston Villa is now focusing on the withdrawal of the European competition of Europe clubs.
“I am very proud of everything we have done in the Champions League,” said the boss of the villa, Unai Emery, while the dust was spread out from a thrilling confrontation with PSG that they beat 3-2 in the second floor on Tuesday, but lost 3-1 in the first match for a global defeat of 5-4.
Villa Eye UCL again under Emery
Villa is seventh in the Premier League, but only one point in the fifth, which would again assure them a place in the Champions League.
“It is now the most important to obtain Europe again. The most important competition is the Champions League. The challenge we have for the last six games (from the Premier League) is to try to get Europe and the Champions League,” said Emery.
His pride in the face of the strong performance of Villa, after an absence of four decades of the Elite of Europe, was tinged with frustration of not having succeeded in a remarkable return when they got closer to score a fourth goal at Villa Park which would have put the link on aggregation.
“We were close,” he said, adding that he had to push his team to achieve more. “A little more to do better, to try to get it.”
Captain of Villa McGinn: “Proud of my teammates”
Aston Villa Captain John McGinn, who scored on Tuesday, echoed the feeling.
“Obvious disappointment, but I am proud of my teammates, proud of the club. We have traveled a long way. We were so close to this evening. We just failed a little,” he said.
“We had the chance to take the match in more time, but we must be proud of the way we returned against one of the best teams in the world, to fight until the end. We want more. We want to be back here next season and we will do our best to do it. ”
McGinn said the players had given everything against a superb opponent. “We have never abandoned. It was chaos, but we gave everything and I think that every supporter of Aston Villa will leave with a huge feeling of pride,” he said.
“I have never played against Real Madrid or Barcelona, but in my career, they (PSG) are the best team I have met. I age and I certainly would not want to play against them every week.”
