Ukraine unveils Amnesty International government ‘spokeswoman’ Victoria
As if life in wartime Ukraine wasn’t surreal enough, the Foreign Office this week introduced an AI-generated “spokesperson” that will be used to make official statements on its behalf.
“Victoria Shi” will appear wearing a dark suit and read scripts provided by humans, which made her social media debut by introducing himself.
“I’m a digital person, that means the text you hear was generated by artificial intelligence,” the robot said in its initial video posted Wednesday. “With my appointment, we are taking a step towards the future. »
“AI helps us generate only the visual part,” Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s foreign minister, told the Guardian. The text read by the bot is created by the agency.
He added that it was a “technological leap that no diplomatic service in the world has yet achieved”, which was created to save the time and resources of its diplomats.
Shi is inspired by singer Rosalie Numéro, a former contestant on the Ukrainian version of the reality show “The Bachelor.”
His first name is based on the word “victory” and his last on the Ukrainian expression for artificial intelligence, “shtuchniy intelekt”.
