Cavoli is the first military official to confirm that Ukrainian troops entered the Belgorod region. Ukraine’s own soldiers have not officially confirmed the presence of its troops in Belgorod, but regularly reports Ukrainian air strikes in the region.
Neither Cavoli nor the Ukrainian army revealed how much the Ukrainian territories control in the Kursk region, but according to the Deepstate Osint project which monitors military operations, the Kyiv forces still hold around 140 square kilometers in Kursk, out of the 1,300 which they initially seized last summer in the surprise cross offensive.
In March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his army had taken proactive measures on the Russian border to stop a next Moscow offensive is preparing in the northeast Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
Ukraine is not intended to lose
In another general evaluation of the battlefield, Cavoli said that the Ukrainian army was now in solid defensive positions and improves its ability to recruit and form new soldiers to strengthen these positions every week.
“(Always) it is difficult to sit here at the moment to imagine a great Ukrainian offensive that erases everyone, you know, with each square thumb of Ukraine. But likewise, it is very difficult to envisage Ukraine which collapses and the loss of this conflict,” said Cavoli. “I don’t think there is an inevitability of a Ukrainian loss … they are much better placed than them.”
It seems that Ukraine has solved some of its labor problems that were so high last fall, according to Cavoli. Meanwhile, the Russians seem to suffer from a shortage of armored vehicles and a lack of labor.
“Ukrainians have increased the swimming pool of people available for voluntary recruitment. And they did a good job out of the headquarters in front. Ukrainians are mainly counting on one -way attack drones, as well as certain cruise missile systems produced by diets, “said Cavoli.
“They are trying to win. They want to start by ensuring that Russia does not win,” he added.
