He thanked Spain for providing additional air defense, artillery shells and armored vehicles. Sánchez said Spain was already preparing additional Patriot air defense missiles and Leopard tanks, without providing details on the numbers.

Spain refused to supply complete Patriot batteries to kyiv but agreed to send the missiles they fire. Zelenskyy said Ukraine needs at least seven Patriot systems.

“Russia uses more than 3,000 aerial bombs against Ukraine per month,” he said.

Madrid has also increased the number of Ukrainian soldiers it trains.

Sánchez said Spain would also help Ukraine with mine clearance, recovery and financial support.

The security agreement with Spain is Ukraine’s 10th such agreement with its allies – part of an effort to secure long-term support while awaiting admission to NATO. The agreements do not provide for sending troops to protect Ukraine or shooting down missiles over Ukraine.
