Djorden Santos and Danny Barlow engaged in a hugely entertaining back-and-forth in the middle of Saturday’s preliminary card at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
Former welterweight Barlow had a speed advantage early on and clearly landed the better shots in the first half of the fight, peppering Santos and feeling close to a finish in the second. But the Brazilian regained his footing and fought back as Barlow tired, leading to a tight middle stanza before Santos turned an error into an opportunity to control his foe on the ground and in the clinch for the majority of the final round.
The judges were called upon to render a verdict for the first time all evening, and when the scorecards were collated and tallied, it was Santos who ruled on the right side of the verdict. After dropping his promotional debut at UFC 313, Santos becomes the latest member of Dana Whtie’s ’24 Contender Series class to earn a victory inside the Octagon.
