UFC Denver Results: Jean Silva Wins After Drew Dober Suffers Horrific Eye Cut

Jean Silva showed up and looked good in a short-notice opportunity at UFC Denver, coming away with a win after opening up a gruesome gash over Drew Dober’s eye that only got worse with each blow.

The wound that looked like something was coming out of Terrifying 2 In fact, the injury was inflicted by an elbow that Silva landed on Dober repeatedly throughout the fight. The cut was initially opened in the second round, but a ringside physician allowed the action to continue into the third round.

This led to another massive blow from Silva that widened the wound even more and at that point the doctor had no choice but to stop the fight. The end came at 1:28 in the third round with Silva earning the victory by TKO due to a doctor stoppage.

“We’re one of the greatest champions in history. Dominick Cruz said I was a different guy,” Silva shouted, pointing to Cruz who called the cage fights. “I’m different. The elbows, those hands, everything, we planned it, we trained it. I really want to thank Drew Dober. Thank you, Drew Dober.”

Before the fight was stopped, Silva and Dober were engaged in a fierce war, with both fighters landing some very hard punches that would have likely knocked out most lightweights. Dober continually demonstrated his resilience, with the quicker Silva always finding a spot for his lightning-quick strikes from the outside.

Every time Dober managed to cut the cage, he unloaded successive shots, several of which tested Silva’s chin and body, but the Brazilian kept coming.

As time expired in the second round, Silva landed a spectacular spinning back elbow that knocked Dober down and left him on shaky legs, but he ran out of time to recover in the corner. In the restart, Silva came back strong and hit Dober with another vicious elbow.

This turned the cut above Dober’s eye into a crater, leading to the stoppage moments later.

“I have these Neanderthal eyebrows. They open very easily,” Dober said after his defeat. “That’s what I mean by being a warrior. I’ll fight anybody. That’s what fighting is. We join hands and we wage war.”

Despite the loss, the Denver crowd cheered for Dober and applauded Silva for his great work. It was even more impressive that Silva did all of this on short notice after knocking out Charles Jourdain at UFC 303 two weeks ago.

The win improves Silva’s career record to 14-2 and he maintains a perfect 3-0 record in the UFC.
