Chicago – Since Khamzat Chimaev won two fights in 10 days to launch his career in UFC in 2020, a shot in the title was inevitable. Chimaev finally has this opportunity on Saturday evening when he challenges the medium weight championship of Dricus du Plessis in the Main UFC 319 event.
Du Plessis made his third defense of the title. After defeating Robert Whittaker in a title eliminator, Plessis beat Sean Strickland to win the belt. He then defended the belt against Israel Adesanya and in a revenge match with Strickland, making four consecutive victories on men who held the championship.
In the co-principal event of the night, Aaron Pico will make his debut of octagon when he faces Lerone Murphy Invainu.
