Salt Lake City, Utah – UCLA gymnastics heads for the NCAA gymnastics championships after finishing second in the regional NCAA final.
The Bruins marked 197,625, just two tenths behind first place and seeded No. 4, which marked 197,825. Denver ranked third with a score of 197,350 and Minnesota finished fourth with a 196.825.
The UCLA opened with a 49,450 on the ground, led by Brooklyn Moors 9.950. Mika Webster-Longin and Chae Campbell each added 9,900, while Jordan Chiles contributed to 9.825 despite a fragile landing.
The UCLA was second place after each rotation, winning the NCAA berth after marking 49.425 on the balance beam in the final rotation. Denver led competition after the first and second rotations after the balance beam (49,550) and the ground exercise (49,500). They fell third after a score of less than 49 on Vault dropped Denver in third place in the final rotation. They could not catch the Bruins or the Utes.
The Bruins followed with a summit of season 49.475 in Vault. Webster-Longin scored a better 9,950 in career, Campbell added a 9.925 and Chiles closed the rotation with a 9,900. On the bars, UCLA displayed a 49.275. Chiles led with a 9,900, while Campbell, Malabuyo and Webster-Longin each added 9,850s.
The NCAA championships will take place on April 17 and 19 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
