UCLA gymnast Alex Irvine announced her transfer to Auburn in an Instagram post Wednesday evening.
“I found what I was looking for,” she wrote in the post. “Thank you to the Auburn coaches for a great visit and to my family for trusting me to make big decisions like this.”
Irvine just finished her freshman season at UCLA and was considered a promising gymnast for the Bruins. She reliably slotted into routines on vault, uneven bars and floor whenever injuries had kept more experienced gymnasts from competing.
She competed four times on vault with two season-high scores of 9.850 and three times on uneven bars with a season-high score of 9.900. Her competitive floor debut earned a score of 9.750.
Irvine is now the second UCLA gymnast to leave the program after Selena Harris was kicked off the team and entered the transfer portal. Harris shared Irvine’s Instagram post announcing his transfer to Auburn with the caption, “Kinda eaten with this one.”
