Ubisoft has several Assassin’s Creed remakes in the works to ‘modernize’ previous games

We still have a while to go before the Assassin’s Creed Shadows hits the shelves. Ubisoft’s next Assassin’s Creed game looks awesome (we’ve already rounded up everything we know about Assassin’s Creed Shadows ), but if you’re a die-hard fan of the way Assassin’s Creed games used to be, then good news: Ubisoft has several Assassin’s Creed remakes on the way to “modernizing” some of the past games.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot Says ‘Gamers Can Be Excited’ About Some Assassin’s Creed Remakes

“First of all, players may be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve made in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.” » declares Guillemot in an interview with Ubisoft. Guillemot was asked about the future of the series and whether it would continue to vary between more condensed games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and larger games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and he responded that Ubisoft’s goal is to ” to release Assassin’s Creed games more regularly. but not so that it is the same experience every year”, with a lot of “variety of experiences”.

Guillemot adds: “There are a lot of good things coming, including Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which we announced, which will be a very different game from Assassin’s Creed Shadows. We’re going to surprise people, I think.”

When talking about innovation for the Assassin’s Creed games, Guillemot praised generative AI and how it could benefit the series: “Technology is evolving at such a pace that there are opportunities to unlimited evolution. In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, for example, we have a weather system that will affect its gameplay; once swimmable ponds could freeze, for example. Visually, we’re also seeing a big step forward for the series. I’ve also talked a lot about the potential I see in generative AI and how it can enrich NPCs to make them smarter, more interactive. This could potentially extend to the animals of the world, to the world itself. There is still so much we can do to enrich these open worlds and make them even more dynamic. »

Besides Assassin’s Creed games, Ubisoft’s interview also touched on its free-to-play shooter XDefiant and games as a service model. “We need to continue to listen carefully to our players and make informed decisions about where to focus our efforts, because if you succeed with GaaS, you can succeed in the long term. Let’s look at XDefiant. There’s a lot of work to be done, but it’s managed to attract 11 million players in a short space of time and that number will grow with all the work the team is doing to ensure that the first season adds much more to the existing experience. stick with it… Aside from it being continually updated, with different experiences and optimized gameplay, I’d like to see it as a serious esport. But really, for a game like this, there’s no limit to its future. We have a fantastic team, who listen to our players and communicate with them, which is crucial. We’ve started strong, but there’s still a long way to go and I’m glad we’re up to the challenge.”

It’s not yet clear which Assassin’s Creed games will be remade, although a report from Kotaku last year suggested that a remake of fan-favorite Black Flag was in the works.
